Choral Philosophy

Choral ensembles are performance-based and designed to develop skills in group singing, music reading, listening, and performing. Correct posture and breath management, along with vocal technique, tone quality, rhythmic precision, accurate pitch, articulation, stage presence, and interpretation are stressed. Singers are introduced to stylistic elements of choral literature through analysis of text and historical context, in addition to utilization of foreign and historical languages. Aspects of performance, interpretation, blend, diction, intonation, and artistic expression are applied as well. It is important to provide opportunities for creating, performing, listening to, and analyzing music.

Participating in an ensemble offers the opportunity to deepen aesthetic understanding, achieve a sense of community and teamwork through the enjoyment of singing and sharing the love of the choral art with others.
